COURSE DESCRIPTION:
The course is an advanced level x-ray interpretation course that is designed to teach EOD/Bomb techs how to identify IED components in a portable x-ray image. The course will also focus on x-ray interpretation on packages and bags with clutter vs an IED in a package with no clutter and the IED components are easy to identify. Students will also be presented with IED components are hard to identify angles in a cluttered bag/package. The course will also cover how to use the material discrimination imaging feature and how it can provide the Bomb Technician more information than a grey scale image. The course will cover how different IED component and threats will respond in a material discrimination image to include organics, inorganic, and metals. The course is a mixture of classroom and hands on training and is 8 hours long. The course requires that you have an x-ray unit with the material discrimination capability (Dual energy). This course will not cover RSP's and will only focus on interpreting x-ray images for IED threats in cluttered backgrounds. Course is 8 hours and is a mixture of classroom and hands on training. The course is a combination of classroom and hands on training and will include practical exercise on the x-ray system. Students will get to see actual simulated threat devices from our advanced inert training aids.
The course will also have a full day (optional 2 day) of hands on training where students will be given different scenarios and packages to x-ray that cover all of the ELO's from the classroom. In each scenario, the teams will use their own x-ray equipment to work the problem. Each x-ray problem provides a different challenge and helps the teams understand their system's capabilities and limitations better.
STUDENT REQUIREMENTS: Must be familiar with basic portable x-ray operation and have some training on IED components and how they look in x-ray.
EQUIPMENT: Must have access to unit’s x-ray system for hand on and practical exercises. We can bring ours if your unit does not have a system that can do material discrimination.
TESTING: Written test
CERTIFICATE: Certificate of Training for Advanced EOD Portable X-ray Interpretation
INSTRUCTION QUALIFICATION:
